2011 Celebrity Divorces, Engagements, and Marriages

Celebrity romances flourished in 2011, but so did breakups. Some of Hollywood’s finest actors and actresses, along with sports stars and musicians, got married or divorced. A few celebs even managed to do both in the same year!

So if you want to know the who’s who of celebrity divorces, engagements, and marriages, read on as we list off the couples who bought bridal jewelry this past year and those who signed divorce papers.

Celebrity Marriages and Engagements

Love prospered this year, with many famous (and semi-famous) icons finding their soul mate.

The biggest celebrity marriage in 2011 didn’t happen in Hollywood or Malibu. In fact, it didn’t even happen in the United States. The royal wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate was by far the grandest marriage all year, standing as one of the top-viewed events of 2011 even though it was broadcast during the middle of the night in the U.S. Bijou Trésor sends its congratulations out to the young couple and wish them a long and fruitful celebrity marriage!

In Hollywood, celebrities have the tendency to marry other celebrities. Here are a few of the famous people who tied the knot with their peers: James Bond actor Daniel Craig and Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz, country singers Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, and once-famous celebs Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo.

Models Molly Sims and Kate Moss also got married. They certainly looked stunning, having plenty of practice walking down a long runway.

Other celebs that cut the wedding cake in 2011: Seth Rogen, Robin Williams, Tara Reid, Gene Simmons, Amy Smart, Tony Roma, Sofia Coppola, Paul McCartney, Brooke Burke, Chris Bosh, and Marie Osmond.

Finally, here is a list of the celebrities who got engaged in 2011 and are currently planning their weddings, although no dates are set in stone: Britney Spears, Matthew McConaughey, Kristin Cavallari, Anne Hathaway, John Legend, Judy Greer, Ellie Kemper, and Tiki Barber.

Celebrity Divorces

In Hollywood, last year’s marriage is next year’s celebrity divorce, so don’t be surprised to see some of the names listed above calling it quits in 2012 or 2013. It seems like celebs just cannot sustain a long-term relationship like the rest of us commoners.

One of the biggest tabloid “news” stories in America was Kim Kardashian’s highly criticized wedding/divorce. The star of Keeping up with the Kardashians got married to NBA player Kris Humphries on August 20th then divorced him only 72 days later. Some people speculate that Kim Kardashian was paid around 10-14 million dollars for her wedding, which was a huge spectacle for the E! network that hosts her reality show. A quickie marriage and divorce would be an easy way to make some cash and remain culturally relevant. Meanwhile, her ex-hubby Kris gets booed when his New Jersey Nets play basketball, because it was rumored that he verbally abused Kim and called her “fat.”

Kim K’s exploits would be the most insane, if not for an even briefer marriage from singer Sinead O’Connor in December, which lasted only 16 days. Sinead is most famous for her song “Nothing Compares 2 U” and for an appearance on Saturday Night Live where she ripped a picture of the Pope. With her spontaneous Vegas wedding, the elder songstress is showing that you don’t need to be young and naive to get a quickie celebrity divorce.

California governor and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger was divorced by his wife Maria Shriver after it was revealed that he had a long-standing affair and illegitimate child with their maid. The child even stayed at their house and played with the couple’s kids.

Another famous couple that called it quits was Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, because Kutcher was caught cheating. Latin stars Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony also ended their seven-year marriage.

Yes, it was a wild year for celebrity divorces. Three month and three week marriages, secret children, and infidelity highlighted the insanity. But don’t let their failures sway you from taking the plunge!

Bridal Jewelry

A successful celebrity marriage is like a solar eclipse, you just don’t see them very often. Even a couple that seems happy, like J.Lo and Marc Anthony, could end up divorced seven years down the road. But their low success rate doesn’t have to affect the rest of us. Marriage is still an important ceremony to most of us regular folk, rather than a publicity stunt.

So treat yourself to some bridal jewelry! Find that perfect fashion necklace to compliment your wedding gown as you walk down the aisle. Even if you’re not getting married soon, you can still take a look and make a mental inventory. I have my dream wedding all planned out, down to the most specific details; now all I need is a man to propose!

Check out our beautiful collection of bridal jewelry, so that you can find the perfect pieces to make you radiate on that special day. Hey, if it doesn’t work out, you can always get a divorce in three months and begin planning your next wedding!
